“My name is U Thaung Shwe and I am the owner of this Lottery shop. Originally, I am coming from Rakhine State. My family has a lot of problems and we are struggling to have enough money to live. Therefore, I hope to earn a lot of money in 2018 to support my wife, my children and my grandchildren. For Myanmar, my wish is that every ethnic group can live peacefully in this country especially my ethnicity, the Rakhine people. In my state, there are armed conflicts. So I hope that the armed conflicts will end in my region.”

“I am Wine Kyi. I am selling fried pork. I hope for a better economy in Myanmar because I am very poor. My wish for 2018 is to have my own home. I want the government to arrange a housing system that would be paid by a loan or something similar. That would help me to get my own house.”

“I am Kyi Kyi Moe and I have a Thai Papaya Salad mobile. I am selling my food at different places on the market. I have to push the large mobile on front of me to go to other spots. For 2018, I want that the government fulfills the people’s wishes. Every government promised that they will fulfill the people’s wishes, but it never happened in reality. For myself, I wish to have my own house because I have been living in a rented house for two years and it is really difficult to settle the rent.”

‘I experience freedom the best when I am going out with my friends, and I am happy at this moment. I think that there should be freedom to a considerable extent; it is not good if there is no freedom. But it should not be limitless.’

'According to my understanding of freedom, there are two types of freedom such as individual freedom and common freedom. Individual freedom means that we can move freely and can go wherever we want and that we can enjoy happiness at any place without pressure.
This is individual freedom how I understand it. My best experience of freedom was when I was a university student. I have a bachelor degree, and I used to work at a government department. I also left Myanmar for some time and worked abroad. Now, I am working as a taxi driver in Yangon.'

‘The best freedom I enjoyed since my childhood was the time I went out with my friends even though I lived with my parents. My understanding of freedom is living freely and happily without any custody and I can make my own decision. I feel like freedom when I can do things I satisfy and I can make decision by myself.

The best freedom I enjoyed since my childhood was when I was a student. In a student life, we ate, we slept and we played, that’s it. I understand about freedom is happiness of a man, and especially can make our own decision where we can do what we do like to do without any custody. So I designate that as individual freedom.
